	In Ritson's North Country Chorister there is another ballad, called " Laddy, lie near me" (beginning, "As I walked over hills, dales, and high mountains''); and in 1793 Mr. George Thomson gave Burns a tune of that name, to write words to, which is now included in Scotch Collections. It differs wholly from this.


	MILL-FIELD. In the collection of ballads and proclamations in the library of the Society of Antiquaries is one by W. Elderton, entitled " A new ballad, declaring the great treason conspired against the young King of Scots, and how one Andrew Browne, an Englishman, which was the King's Chambcrlaine, prevented the same. To the tune of Milfield, or els to Greene sleeves." It was printed by " Yarathe James," to whom it was licensed on 30th May, 1581. The tune is in TJie Dancing Master from 1650 to 1658. The ballad in Percy's Reliques, series ii., book 2, No. 16. The first stanza is here with the music.
